October's Party
1.
October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came,
The Ashes, Oaks and Maples,
And leaves of ev'ry name,
The sunshine spread a carpet,
And ev'rything was grand;
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind,
the band.
2.
The Chestnuts came in yellow,
The Oaks in crimson dress;
The lovely Misses Maple Were
radiant like the rest.
All balanced to their partners,
And gaily fluttered by;
The sight was like a rainbow
Newfallen from the sky.
3.
There in the Rusty Hollow,
At hideandseek they played;
The party closed at sundown
But ev'rybody stayed.
Professor Wind played louder;
They flew along the ground;
And when the party ended
'Twas jolly all "hands round".
